LangBlitz FAQ

This page collects answers to questions that come up often but do not need a full guide of their own. If you are looking for something more in depth, check the other help articles linked throughout, or from the main help center.

General Questions

Does LangBlitz work without an internet connection? Yes. LangBlitz works fully offline once installed. You do not need a connection to study, take quizzes, or track your progress. An internet connection is only relevant for installing or updating the app itself and, for premium users, verifying subscription status occasionally.

Do I need to create an account? No. There is no login screen and no account of any kind. Your progress is stored locally on your device. This is covered in more depth, including why it matters for backups, in the export and import guide.

What Android version does LangBlitz require? LangBlitz supports Android 8.0 and newer, which covers the large majority of Android devices in active use.

Does LangBlitz collect or sell my personal data? LangBlitz does not require personal identifying information to use, since there is no account system. There is an optional setting to share anonymous usage data to help improve the app, found in Settings under the Data section, and it can be turned off entirely at any time, including declining it outright during onboarding.

Can I use LangBlitz on more than one device? You can install LangBlitz on multiple devices, but progress does not sync between them automatically, since there is no account or server sync. If you want the same progress on two devices, use the export and import feature to transfer it manually, covered in its own guide.

CEFR Level and Progression Questions

Can I change my CEFR practice level manually? Yes. Your practice level, which determines which new words get introduced to you, can be adjusted directly in Settings at any time, separate from the automatic progression system.

What is the difference between automatic and manual level progression? With automatic progression, LangBlitz advances your level on its own once you have introduced and retained enough of your current level's words. With manual progression, your level only changes when you choose to, either by adjusting it directly in Settings or by passing the Fast-track Level Up test. Which mode is active is itself a setting you control.

I do not think my placement quiz result was accurate. Can I retake it? The placement quiz itself runs once during onboarding, but since your practice level can be changed manually at any time in Settings, you are not stuck with the initial result. If it feels too easy, move up a level, or attempt the Fast-track Level Up test if you want to prove you are ready rather than just jumping the label. If it feels overwhelming, move down. There is no penalty either way, and the spaced repetition system adapts to wherever you actually are regardless of what level label is currently set.

Why did I see a word again so soon after rating it Easy? This comes down to how the underlying scheduling works, covered in full in the spaced repetition and FSRS guide. In short, the next interval depends on a word's overall stability and difficulty history, not only your most recent rating, so a word with a rocky history can still return sooner than expected even after an Easy rating.

Accessibility and Display Questions

Is there a dark mode? Yes. Theme options include light, dark, and a setting that follows your system theme automatically, found in the Appearance section of Settings.

Can I adjust the font size? Yes, font size can be scaled up or down independently of your device's system font size setting, found in Appearance settings.

What is OpenDyslexic font, and why would I want it? OpenDyslexic is a typeface specifically designed to help some readers with dyslexia read more comfortably, using letter shapes intended to reduce common letter confusion. LangBlitz includes it as an optional font setting under Accessibility. It is worth trying even if you are not sure whether it will help, since it costs nothing to toggle on and off.

What does high contrast mode do? High contrast mode increases the visual distinction between text, backgrounds, and interactive elements throughout the app, intended for users who find standard contrast levels hard to read comfortably.

What are shape cues, and where do I find them? Shape cues add rings and outlines to mastery indicators in Vocabulary World, on top of the existing color coding, so mastery level is never communicated by color alone. This matters specifically for users with color vision differences. It is a free setting available to every user regardless of subscription tier. It is covered in full in the Vocabulary World guide, and the toggle lives in Accessibility settings.

Is there a relaxed line spacing option? Yes, a relaxed line spacing setting is available under Appearance for readers who find tighter default spacing harder to read comfortably.

Text to Speech and Pronunciation Questions

Does LangBlitz read words out loud? Yes, text to speech is available and can be toggled on or off in Settings under Audio.

Can I control how fast the pronunciation plays? Yes, speech rate can be set to slow, normal, or fast.

Can I choose between American and British pronunciation? Yes, an accent setting lets you choose between American English and British English pronunciation for text to speech.

Notifications and Reminders

How do daily reminders work? LangBlitz can send a daily notification reminding you to review, with a time you set yourself in Settings under Notifications. This is entirely optional and can be turned off completely if you prefer to rely on your own memory to open the app.

Can I change the reminder time? Yes, both the hour and minute of your daily reminder are adjustable directly in Settings.

My reminders seem delayed or inconsistent. What should I check? This is usually related to your device's battery optimization settings, which can delay notifications from apps it considers inactive. Settings includes a direct shortcut to exempt LangBlitz from this kind of battery optimization if you notice reminders arriving later than the time you set.

Study Settings

What is smart new word pacing? When enabled, this setting automatically slows down how many brand new words are introduced per session as your due review backlog grows, so a busy stretch where reviews pile up does not also add a full load of brand new words on top. It is covered in more detail in the spaced repetition and FSRS guide, since it interacts directly with the underlying scheduling.

What does review intensity control? Review intensity, with Light, Balanced, and Thorough options, adjusts the overall aggressiveness of the review workload the app aims for on a given day, letting you tune the general daily time commitment without changing your CEFR level or new words per session limit.

Can I limit quizzes to only my current level? Yes, a setting called "Limit quizzes to current level" restricts Daily Quiz and other quiz modes to only your current CEFR practice level rather than pulling from your entire study history across every level you have touched.

How do I change how many new words are introduced per session? This is set directly in Settings and defaults to a moderate number chosen to be sustainable for most learners rather than the maximum the app could technically throw at you at once.

Streaks and Widgets

How does the streak actually work? Your streak counts consecutive days you have completed a review session. It resets if a full day passes with no session and no active shield to protect it. Both your current streak and your best ever streak are shown on the home screen.

What is the streak shield? A shield protects your streak from breaking the first time you miss a day, giving you one grace day. Shields refresh on their own cycle rather than being available every day, so they work best treated as a genuine safety net for an unavoidable busy day rather than routine permission to skip regularly.

What does the Word of the Day widget show, and is it free? The widget shows a single featured word and its definition on your home screen, refreshed daily, and it is available to every user regardless of subscription tier. Adding it to your home screen uses your device's normal widget picker, the same way you would add any other app widget.

What is auto advance in quizzes? When enabled in Settings, auto advance automatically moves to the next question a short moment after you answer, instead of requiring you to tap Next each time. It is a convenience setting only and does not change how questions are scored or selected.

Reporting Problems

I found a word card or quiz question that seems wrong. What should I do? Every word card and every quiz question has a report option built directly into it. Reporting sends the specific item into a review queue for correction, and is the most effective way to get a genuine mistake fixed, both for you and for every other learner who would otherwise encounter the same issue.

Something in the app is not working the way this help center describes. What now? Settings includes a Contact Support option for exactly this kind of situation, letting you describe the issue directly.
